Wars and rumours of Wars

After telling His disciples that many would come in His name and so deceive many before He took His rightful place as Lord (Christians look upon this as His second coming to fully bring the Kingdom of God here to the earth).  The disciples initially thought Jesus would take the throne in Jerusalem and free them from Roman rule.  That was clearly not the case Jesus did not take up the throne at that time.

Jesus preached the gospel of the Kingdom before His crucifixion, resurrection and ascension (Jesus taken up to heaven – Mark chapter 16 verse 19  So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.)

A few examples of Jesus speaking about the Kingdom are:-

Matthew chapter 4 verse 23; And he (Jesus) went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

Matthew chapter 6 verse 33; But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew chapter 10 verse 7; And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

The Apostle Paul preached it after Jesus had gone to be with the Father.

Acts chapter 14 verse 22;  strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God is also referred to as theKingdom of Heaven they are one and the same thing.  Jesus came to preach the good news that the Kingdom of God was at hand.  He came to instigate it and show humanity the way to enter into it; which was fundamentally through His death, resurrection and ascension.

Yet, before Jesus takes His rightful place as Lord of heaven and earth He says certain things must happen.  We wrote in the previous point that many false Christ’s would come.  Jesus followed on by saying:-

Mattew chapter 24 verse 6; And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.

Matthew 24 verse 7a; For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,

There have been countless wars over the last two millennia since Jesus’s resurrection.  The Temple of  Jerusalem was raised to the ground and hundreds of thousands of Jews slaughtered by the Roman Legions in 70ad.  In more recent times wars seemed to have intensified.  The world has witnessed two world wars in which an estimated 71 million people perished.  The Second World War was supposed to be the war to end all wars sadly that has not proved to be true.  An estimated 30 million people were killed in other wars during the 20th century in addition to those of the two world wars making over 100 million in all.  In this the 21st century there are reputedly 30 plus wars and conflicts ongoing.  Matthew chapter 24 verse 7 says nation against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  This could also be translated as ethnic group against ethnic group in other words civil war.  Currently, especially in African and Arab states we are witnessing a number of these conflicts.  Are all these hostilities with the resulting huge numbers of deaths what Jesus was referring to all those years ago, and more signs of His return?  That is for you to decide.
