Prayer

Prayer

Matthew. 6: 5-8

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.  I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.  But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.  Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

How many know that the conscious thought or spoken word ‘help’ is in itself a prayer.  Jesus when teaching about prayer emphasised the word Father three times in this short passage and that prayers do not need to be long winded oratories.  The Father He is speaking of is God.

Tozer a preacher and theologian from the early 20th Century said this, “no church is greater than its understanding of who God is.  What comes to you when you think of God is the most important thing about you.”

The greatest blessing of Christianity is that we come to know God through the supernatural aspirations of the Holy Spirit.  To know God ultimately means salvation!

Jesus said, “whoever has seen me has seen the Father,” John.14: 9.

God is an open book He has got nothing to hide and an important desire of Jesus was for people to know God :-

“Righteous Father, though the world does not know You, I know You and they know that You have sent Me. I have made You known to them, and will continue to make You known in order that the love You have for Me may be in them and that I Myself may be in them,” John.17: 25-26.

The Apostle Paul’s desire for the church of Ephesus was the same, for them to know the Lord better, Ephesians. 1: 17.

To get to know God we need to give Him time.  Time is a precious commodity these days.  So, the question is how much time are you and I prepared to give?
